Forget Leprechauns, it’s All About the Soup

11 years after Ben spent 6 months going to school in Galway, Ireland, he finally got to show his parents around the place!

Ben’s folks were taking a 3-week trip to Ireland (Kathleen’s “roots” trip, sorta), so we joined them for their West Coast week. It happened to be the Galway Arts Festival while we were there, so there was bonus! art! and street performances! Much fun and much food was had by all. Especially the amazing soups…every cafe and every pub has its own thick, hot soup (usually a vegetable soup and a seafood chowder, this being a beach town), served with soda bread or other chunky brown homemade bread. It’s truly the perfect food for Irish weather; warm and comforting, hearty and filling, but it doesn’t weigh you down so you can still go bouncing along the tourist path with a spring in your step!

mmm, soup…
