Last night, deb and I went to Singapore’s cable wakeboarding lake, and got towed around the lake not by a boat, but by their giant system of cables. It was fun!
Starting seated on a bench feels pretty different from starting floating in the water. The cable jerks you more than a boat does as you take off, which is harder, but you don’t have to pull yourself up out of the water, which is easier.
And then once you get going, you realize that without the boat, there’s no wake. This could make it less interesting, so to compensate, the lake is full of jumps and boxes to slide across. My excuse for not trying the jumps is that we weren’t allowed to use them on rental boards. (*Feigned disappointment!*)
I managed to do a couple loops around the lake on my first run, and then bailed early on my 2nd run. After a few more runs of different lengths (including a long walk after bailing at the furthest point around the lake from the starting area), I finally finished a run on purpose instead of by falling, which was pretty cool.
I’ve been waterskiing and wakeboarding behind real boats a bunch of times before, but this was deb’s first time. It took her a bunch of tries, and a fair bit of water up the nose, before she successfully stood up, but by the end she got it great, and made it all the way around the lake!
We’re enjoying our stay at the SingaporeLand island/city/state/theme-park.
