2am dessert bar

Last night we met up with a few friends, and walked over to the 2am dessert bar for a big dessert after an intentionally small dinner. As advertised, it is indeed open until 2am, but that’s only its 2nd best feature. Their desserts are awesome!

They have a really fun menu with all sorts of beautiful dishes that combine textures and flavors in fun ways. They also have a 10 course degustation menu, and its little 6 course cousin, which we tried.

Some of the more memorable dishes were the lemon explosion (again with the truth in advertising!), PB&J which included homemade peanut butter, strawberry shortcake ice cream, vertical shortcake structures, and a few other tasty bits, and “shades of purple” which included ice creams, jams, fruit leather, and lavender marshmallows.

It’s run by a chef named Janice Wong who has an impressive international resume for someone who looks to be about our age! (Paris at Le Cordon Bleu, Chicago at Alinea, somewhere in New York…) Her culinary philosophy seems similar to that of Thomas Keller, in that she loves to create nostalgic dishes that remind people of childhood delicacies like fruit roll ups, ice cream cones, and PB&J. And she came out to talk with us for a while at the end which was fun. 🙂

Stay tuned for photos!
