I am sitting on the balcony of our apartment right now, in the midst of a spectacular lightning storm. Huge bolts in yellow, blue, orange, and purple; peals of thunder like being under a flight path, and absolutely NO RAIN (yet).
This is the first time I’ve ever been in a thunderstorm where the electricity is so intense it’s actually tickling my arm hairs. I’ve been to the midwest in summer once (yeehaw, Cardinal Whirlwinds at the National Squaredance Convention!), and the clouds and storms were quite dramatic…but it always rained and cleared the static from the air. Right now I feel like there are caterpillars crawling up my arms!
But judging by the past thunderstorms in Sydney, it will soon dump half an ocean from the sky. We better make it to the pub first! (Tonight is Pub Quiz night at the Darlo Bar, with a special Texas Chainsaw Massacre theme in celebration of the local horror movie film festival going on in Newtown. There’s a movie on the bill about making a zombie movie in a post-zombie-apocalyptic world…we just might have to go see that one…)
