Our fabulous friend Merry came to Sydney for a week of well-deserved vacation. She didn’t really get the “relaxing, chill out” type of vacation; instead, she saw basically everything one should see on a visit to Sydney! She was a busy bee, and I was really grateful that she was up for touring herself around while Ben and I were working.
Unfortunately for her, it kinda dumped rain most days…I had promised sundress weather (I swear it was 75F and sunny the week before!), but Sydney did not cooperate. But Merry is a trooper and found lots of fun indoors stuff to do, including the Sydney Opera House tour (highly recommended!) and a massage at the hotel spa (skip it).
It was sooo great to have a friend come visit and hang out. We had some yummmmy dinners (Cafe XXII in Pyrmont was a hit, especially due to our fabulous waiter, Alex) and dinner at Rise with Carson from work. Lest you think all we did was ate, other highlights included a fabulous Bollywood dance class at Mango Dance, one whole sunny day at Manly, shopping in funky boutiques on King St. in Newtown, our train trip to Katoomba and of course the stunning waterfall bushwalk (yay Merry for putting up with mud!), which was one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever experienced. And yes, more food, like tea at the QVB and apple turnovers from Hominy Bakery. (See the Restaurants post for more food details.)
At the end of Merry’s trip, Rainbow arrived in town! Rainbow will be staying in our apartment while I go to Singapore for a work trip and Ben heads home for work and snowboarding. So alas, we are not getting that much hangout time with Rainbow, but I am very confident in her ability to find fun people to hang out with while we’re gone!
