Melbourne: The Climb of the Penguins

In Melbourne we checked out the local graffiti. It included some really nice work, including art in multiple locations by someone named Deb. We also saw a Banksy, which was exciting.

After walking around town, we stopped at Max Brenner’s for hot chocolate. This is a pretty serious chocolate binging establishment, and we did some fine work.

In the evening, we walked down to the Jetty at the pier, which is host of a whole colony of little penguins. (Formerly known as fairy penguins.) Each night at dusk, they all climb up onto the rocks of the jetty, and find themselves little crevices to sleep in. And if you happen to be standing on the boardwalk at the bottom of the jetty as they climb up, they don’t seem to mind at all. After staring at us for a few seconds, they would walk right past us, waddling around our legs if we were in the way. We also watched some grumpy penguins yell at each other a bit, and get kicked out of each others nests. Deb was a happy camper.
